Details
Told by Mickey MacNeil; edited by Shamus Y. MacDonald; illustrated by Emily MacDonald (Eimilidh Dhòmhnallach).
Long ago, the Gaels brought this folktale from the Isle of Barra, Scotland, to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. A favourite of Cape Breton Gaelic tradition bearer Michael “Mickey” MacNeil, it tells the story of Luran, a farmer and fisherman with cattle, sheep, horses, and a good boat. But the fairies kept coming every night to steal his animals. He didn’t know what to do. Then one day, while out fishing, a mermaid came to his boat… A Scottish Gaelic book available in two spelling editions: Nova Scotia and GOC.
